Rowing 3800 miles in Coral Sunglasses

We’re proud to be supporting the M2M Atlantic Four on their journey from mainland Europe to mainland South America. The team will be rowing non-stop on this journey and are attempting to break the record of completing mainland to mainland in a Pure class boat. Jim, Rob and Tom (unfortunately, the fourth member of the team was forced to withdraw due to health reasons) will row 3800 miles in 60 days.

They are raising money for Surfers Against Sewage and Our Blue Light charities. Surfers Against Sewage work to protect our oceans and beaches, raising awareness of the issues with marine plastic pollution. Our Blue Light promote the physical and mental wellbeing of emergency workers in the UK.

Last year, our founder George Bailey spoke to Tom from M2M Atlantic Four. He was working for the NHS as a paramedic through one of the most challenging periods of National lockdown. As well as working those long shifts, Tom and his teammates were training to row the Atlantic unaided, a 3800-mile ocean in a 29ft boat.

The team set off from the marina of Portimao on the south coast of Portugal in December 2021. Today is day 31, and they’re past the 1,000-mile mark with 2, 748 miles left to go! Their journey has taken them to the Canary Islands and then along the African coast. They will have completed the challenge once they arrive in Cayenne, the capital of French Guiana.

We chose to support them, not only because of their heroic adventure but because they’re looking to raise awareness of the issues with ocean plastic. We’ve gifted each member of the team a pair of our polarised-mirror sunglasses made from ocean waste to support them on their journey.
